This episode is brought to you by: Lucas Equine Equipment, makers of fine quality stall components and accessories. And, by Tangent Materials, smart fencing for safer farms.

Innovation in the horse industry is always an exciting thing! Whether it’s research findings in veterinary care, a high tech pitch fork, new training techniques, or software designed to make life a little easier for riders and barn managers. Today’s episode includes a conversation with the founders of Strider, a new, digital platform that allows riders to enter events online, and makes simple work out of organizing these events for barn owners and managers. How about that? Saving time, energy, and money… now that’s what I call, INNOVATIVE. Listen in!

EP 52: A Happy Barn Starts with Good Leadership

When you walk into a barn, can you sense the overall energy of the place? Are the horses happy? Is the barn clean and tidy. How are you greeted by the staff? All of these details are driven by one thing… the barn manager. Good energy in a barn starts with good leadership and works its way down to the tiniest of elements – and creatures.

My guest today is Chelsea Canedy of Canedy Horsemanship & Performance in Wales, Maine. Chelsea’s story will, in some ways, sound familiar to many of you, but what changed her trajectory as a horse professional and barn owner, is intriguing. In commercial boarding barns, keeping a diverse group of horses and riders happy can be challenging, but happiness starts within. Listen in!

Meghan Hamilton runs a lovely, quality dressage training facility in southern New England. Like all horse owners, managing the manure pile is something she calculates into the cost of doing business. Unlike others, however, Meghan’s manure pile isn’t in her debit column. Nope. Meghan has actually turned her horses’ manure into a profit center using a pretty straightforward composting system. And the best part is that she funded a good chunk of it with funds from her state’s agricultural division.  Listen in and learn!
