Helena is currently studying for a master of science at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in Animal Welfare & Behavior (Equine). She is also a member of the Animal Behavior Society, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), and the International Society of Equitation Science.

Prior to her graduate studies, she provided stable management and business consulting services to equine professionals for the better part of 15 years. She also clocked thousands of hours talking with experts in the horse industry as part of her role as host and producer of several award-winning podcasts on the Horse Radio Network.

Foxhunting is where Helena spent the most hours in the saddle, but she has dabbled in low-level eventing, equitation, and dressage. In addition, she has worked closely over the years with top-tier riders and clinicians to help them optimize their horse management practices as well as their business operations. She currently rides and trains her own OTTB mares as pleasure mounts, while her retired field hunter, Brody, enjoys life as the resident ‘Good Horse Ambassador of the World‘.

A NOTE ABOUT PAIN AND BEHAVIOR

Since pain-related behaviors can be complex and often ambiguous, it is always best to consult with your veterinarian if you suspect a physical issue to be the root cause of a behavior problem. Animal behaviorists do not diagnose or treat medical issues, but we do work alongside your veterinarian when appropriate. Please be sure to have your horse, donkey, or mule evaluated by a veterinarian regularly to ensure good physical health.
